Cavity fire barriers

Cavity fire barriers have very wide application in cavities sub-division and sealing wherever the applicable regulation require for any concealed space within the wall, roof or floor construction to be properly fire-protected in order of to restrict the spread of flame and smoke. The system is in accordance with the Approved Document B requirements in timber or metal frames, providing up to 60 minutes of fire resistance and available as either pre-formed or built on-situ.

Certain consideration should be taken into account upon installation, including:

• the class the surface within the cavity has been classified must be taken into account and the location of every cavity must correspond to the maximal distance between the cavities;
• a cavity barrier must be installed at every junction of the cavities and around any perimeter of any opening within the element containing a cavity, all in order of preventing the smoke and flame from reaching another cavity or a room directly;
• all cavity barriers must be able to perform during the entire life of the structure (potential movement of the building accounted for);
• the fire resistance of the entire construction should be maintained why all services accommodated through the cavity barrier must be properly fire-stopped.
